Textual Criticism is Cool

Michael Kruger argues that textual criticism is now cool among evangelicals, after 30 years of developments in the field. Certainly this resonates with my experience. People love tangible artifacts, and it's a nice entry point for deeper discussions about the text and transmission of the Bible. I wonder how much this applies to the OT though.

  1. I, for one, would agree that OT TC certainly has not gained the traction of its NT counterpart. I keep well abreast of NT TC and have for years. I even have a rudimentary understanding and interest in non-biblical TC, yet until the last few years not much interest in OTTC. Seems like the MT is presented as a fait complet, with the only other option being some occasional LXX or OG possibility. Maybe having a ‘standard text’ that is presented frequently as an unchallenged unit impacts OTTC as well. I am glad your blog is here.

    1. I'm happy to hear your interest in expanding to the OT and in this blog. There is certainly a lot happening in the field, and it is gaining some public interest. But we have a long way to go in providing even the most basic and barely acceptable scholarly resources.
